SYMBOLIC DREAMS, DIVINE PROPHECY AND PREMONITIONS – DREAM INTERPRETATION

Symbolic dreams

This kind of psychic or prophetic dream, rather than being literal and relatively easy to understand, can be laden with various symbols and imagery, and thus can be difficult for the dreamer to understand.

The imagery may seem rather obscure at first, and the dream may even require a skilled and gifted dream interpreter to help unravel its understanding, interpret it and apply it for the dreamer.

Even with the use of a skilled and gifted dream interpreter, the dream may be so hard to understand that the interpretation may take time to be arrived at.

In the Bible, there are several examples of Joseph being called upon to interpret the Egyptians’ hard to understand but God-given symbolic dreams, and Daniel being called upon to interpret the Babylonians’ hard to understand but God-given symbolic dreams. Daniel’s own symbolic dreams are still the subject of great speculation today about the end times.

Here’s how Pharaoh dreamed of the coming famine in Egypt, the seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine (the symbolic dreams Joseph was called to interpret).

Pharaoh’s 1st dream:

From the Nile were coming up seven cows, of handsome appearance and robust flesh, and they pastured in the marshland. And behold, seven other cows were coming up after them from the Nile, of ugly appearance and lean of flesh, and they stood beside the cows which were on the Nile bank. And the cows of ugly appearance and lean of flesh devoured the seven cows that were of handsome appearance and healthy.

Pharaoh’s 2nd (linked) dream:

Seven ears of grain were growing on one stalk, healthy and good. And behold, seven ears of grain, thin and beaten by the east wind, were growing up after them. And the thin ears of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears of grain.

Afterwards, Joseph not only interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams correctly, but he gave wise advice to make preparations by stockpiling grain to see them through the lean seven years.

This story in Genesis is an excellent example of a God-given forewarning of a bad thing, given for good – not to scare but so the wise can respond to it appropriately and so prevent much harm.

If your prophetic dreams are genuine and you hear from God, if and when you ever foresee bad events like this, whether symbolically or literally through a dream or vision – then I believe there is always a reason for it – not to scare, but to warn and get people to prepare appropriately so good can come.

Excellent advice, I’ve seen really weird things in dreams that have taken me many months to figure out. Some parts, I’m still struggling understanding.

Is part of the trouble in interpreting these kind of symbolic dreams is that they are sent in ancient archetypes, but we’ve only learned to think in terms of a modern mindset?

      The Thinker

That could be an additional issue, which is why studying and meditating on the ancient scriptures can be helpful to get extra wisdom and understanding and get into another mindset. For instance, I’ve extensively studied the Bible for many years, and that’s certainly helped me in understanding dreams coming from a divine source.

However, our modern mindsets are not the only issue, for if you look at the examples given in my article above, even Pharaoh and King Nebuchadnezzar and their respective courts of astrologers and magicians etc etc struggled at the time to interpret the symbolic dreams they’d received – hence their calling in Joseph and Daniel to help them get the dreams’ interpretation.
